Ethan Spencer enters his first season as the head men’s and women’s swimming coach at Truman State University in 2026, bringing a strong background in collegiate coaching, recruiting, and student-athlete development.
Spencer arrives in Kirksville following two Division I coaching stops, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Old Dominion University. While with the Monarchs, he played an integral role in all aspects of the program, including training, recruiting, and team operations. He helped guide the team to nine program records and 11 pool records, while also contributing to the development of an NCAA Division I Championship qualifying performance.
In addition to his work on deck, Spencer enhanced the program’s technical approach by implementing video analysis tools for training and competition, providing student-athletes with greater access to performance feedback. He also coordinated recruiting efforts, managing official visits and helping secure both top in-state and international talent.
Prior to Old Dominion, Spencer served as an assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he assisted with recruiting, organized team travel and logistics, and worked hands-on with athletes across all stroke groups. Concurrently, he gained head coaching experience as the Head Site Coach for Swim Florida, overseeing age group and senior-level swimmers while managing day-to-day program operations.
A 2023 graduate of DePauw University, Spencer earned bachelor’s degrees in communication and English literature. He was a team captain for one season for the Tigers’ swimming and diving program, demonstrating leadership and commitment both in and out of the pool.
Spencer’s coaching philosophy emphasizes technical development, accountability, and a holistic approach to student-athlete success, aligning with Truman State’s tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics.
