Truman Falls To Barry In Opener

Box Score | Season Stats

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 14-0 run by the Barry Buccaneers to start the second half was too much to overcome by the Truman Women's Basketball team in their season opener on Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs fell by a score of 63-44.  Truman will face host school Nova Southeastern on Saturday.

Senior Amy Galey dropped in a shot just before half to knot the score at 29 apiece but the Buccaneers exploded for the first 14 points of the second half and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first eight minutes of the period.

The Bulldogs clawed their way back to within seven points with five minutes to play but Shaun Suttington buried a three-pointer with 4:53 left to push the lead back to double-figures. Suttington finished with a game-high 16 points.

Junior Breanna Daniels led Truman with 10 points but the story on the night was the turnovers by the Bulldogs.

Truman had 22 turnovers to just seven by Barry and the Buccaneers had 15 more shot attempts.  The Bulldogs finished shooting 45% from the field but were just three of 12 from outside.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they will face Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. central time.  The Sharks are 1-0 prior to their game with Northwood University (Mich.) this evening.  The game will have a live video stream and it can be accessed by clicking on Live Video on TrumanBulldogs.com.
