Box Score | Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A 20-6 run including an 11-0 spurt near the end of the first half lifted the Truman women's basketball team to a 71-58 MIAA opening win on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena.  Despite not scoring, Amy Galey had nine assists and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Breanna Daniels had a team-high 16 points with Nicole Gloor scoring 15 off the bench as Truman (2-2; 1-0 MIAA) also dominated the glass by a 47-24 margin.

We kept our composure well especially when we needed to do so down six points in the first half,” said Coach Michael Smith.  “Once we started paying attention to detail and executing the game plan, things started to go our way.”

Jasmine Lovejoy led the Lions (2-3; 0-1 MIAA) with 18 points but Southern shot just 36% from the field and was 6-of-11 from the foul line.

Lovejoy gave the Lions their largest lead of the game of six points at the nine minute mark in the first but Daniels dropped in a three-pointer that started an 11-0 run to give the Bulldogs a 26-21 lead.

Daniels ended the half in style with third three of the period to put the Bulldogs up 35-27 at the break.

The Lions got as close as three with 11:27 remaining on a basket by LaTice Jones but Gloor spotted up a jumper that connected to push the lead back to five and start another 11-0 run.

Truman would lead by double-figures the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs will play at Pittsburg State, a 73-55 victim at Missouri Western on Wednesday night, Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
