KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Jennifer Conway scored a career-high 20 points and Allie Norton added 10 as the Bulldogs used a 26-1 run in the first half to put away William Penn (Iowa) by a score of 72-39. Truman improves to 2-0 on the season and will host Central Methodist (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in Kirksville.
Orielle Thomas scored the first basket of the game for the Lady Statesmen and added a free throw at the 19:01 mark before Allie Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) rain bowed in a triple to begin the onslaught. The Bulldogs would go on runs of 15 and 11 with just one free throw made by the Lady Statesmen in between to race out to a 28-4 lead.
Conway (Waterloo, Ill., Waterloo) made her first five field goal attempts and had 14 points at the break as Truman took a commanding 38-15 lead into the locker room. Becka McHenry (Fraser, Mich., Fraser)(Fraser, Mich., Fraser) assisted on half of the made baskets in the first 20 minutes and finished the game with a career-high nine.
Truman would lead by as many as 35 in the second half.
Conway finished with a double-double with 12 rebounds while Breanna Daniels (Ridgedale, Mo., Hollister) pulled down 10 boards to go with her nine points.
Thomas came into the game leading William Penn with over 16 points per game but was mostly shutdown by Nicole Gloor (Overland Park, Kan., Blue Valley). After opening the game with three points, Thomas did not make another field goal until the 8:40 mark of the second half and finished with eight points overall.
The Bulldogs shot 50% in the first half and 47% for the game while the Lady Statesmen were 17% in the first half from the floor and 23% overall.
