Bulldogs Move To 6-0 With 63-55 Road Win At Southern

JOPLIN, MO. – Becka McHenry matched her career high with 22 points and Allie Norton knocked down three big three-pointers in the second half as Truman shook off a sluggish start to down Missouri Southern 63-55 in the conference opener for both teams. The Bulldogs move to 6-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season.

Truman shot just 24% and had 15 turnovers in the first half but trailed only by three points against the Lions (4-3).

McHenry (Fraser, Mich., Fraser) scored Truman's first nine points to start the second half and gave the Bulldogs a 31-30 lead. Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) then rained in three straight triples to give the Bulldogs a 40-38 advantage with just over 10 minutes left to play and the Bulldogs would not surrender the lead the rest of the way.

Erin Rice, who led the Lions with 22 points, dropped in her only trey with 5:07 left to pull Southern to within one at 48-47. However Truman finished the game on an 11-3 run to close out the Lions with Bianca Szafarowicz (Wheeling, Ill., Wheeling) getting two big buckets late.

The Truman starting guards were a combine 12-of-21 (57%) from the field including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. McHenry previously scored 22 in an overtime win at Central Missouri last season and Norton finished with four three-pointers in the game for her season-high of 16 points.

The Bulldogs, who received a few votes in the latest WBCA/USA Today Top 25-poll, will face another undefeated team with poll votes in Pittsburg State on Saturday at home with a tip time of 1:00 p.m.
