Balanced Bulldogs Come Up Short at Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. - - Four Truman State men's basketball players finished in double-figures, but the Bulldogs couldn't overcome a 12-point halftime deficit in a 67-54 defeat at Washburn University on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs (4-7, 2-2 MIAA) scored just 18 points in the first-half, shooting 30.4% from the floor in falling behind the host Ichabods 30-18. Truman turned the ball over eight times and gave up six offensive rebounds in the opening frame, allowing ten additional field goal attempts for Washburn (7-3, 2-1 MIAA).
 
Truman upped its output to 37% in the second half and hit four three-pointers but could never get the deficit to less than eight.
 
Junior 
Tom Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) hit four triples off the bench to lead all Bulldogs with 12 points, while three freshmen – Mike Carlson (Superior, Wisc., Marshall HS) (11), Tyler Anderson (West Des Moines, Iowa, Valley HS) (10) and Seth Jackson (St. Louis, Mo., CBC) (10) – also finished in double-figures. Anderson added a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks, while Jackson grabbed seven boards and handed out two assists.
 
The Bulldogs shot 34% from the floor for the game and hit six triples. Truman went 14-for-20 from the charity stripe and finished the game with seven offensive rebounds.
 
Will McNeill led the Ichabods with 16 points.
 
Truman returns to action next Saturday (Dec. 17) at Emporia State in a 4:30 pm tipoff.
