BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Bulldog baseball team raced out to a big lead in game one on Saturday taking the opener 8-2 but couldn't keep up with the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats in the nightcap as SBU salvaged the last game of the set 11-9. Truman will be in action on Tuesday at Lincoln University for an MIAA twinbill.
Michael Reese, who hit .563 for the series with five runs scored, a double, triple, five runs batted in and a .813 slugging percentage, got things started on Saturday by drawing a lead off walk. Steven Rose then hit a triple to bring home Reese to give the Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish. Devon Myers followed with a single and Daniel Jewett doubled in the inning as Truman scored three times.
Reese doubled with two outs in the second to start another three-run inning and the Bulldogs scored single tallies in the fourth and sixth.
Tyler Stefan departed after five strong innings, allowed five hits and no runs and Michael Staihr extending the Bulldog shutout streak to 30 1/3 innings. Jordan McLaughlin gave up an RBI double and RBI single in the seventh to halt the string of scoreless innings by the Bulldog staff.
Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when a lead off triple by Tyler Christophel sparked a four-run inning off of Kyle Veazey.
Truman would answer the big inning with one of their own started by Kenny Swanson's leadoff double and closing with a bases clearing triple by Reese. Rose hit a sac fly to record his sixth RBI in the series to put the Bulldogs on top.
Paden Grubbs would chase Veazey an inning later with a two run home run to retake the lead for the Bearcats and a fielders choice put SBU up 7-5 after five.
The 'Dogs would tie the game in the sixth with a double by Dan Plecki and a single by Jewett but SBU would score four more times in the sixth as a walk and hit batsman came into score off a double, triple and wild pitch.
Truman scored twice in the top of the ninth and had the go ahead run at the plate but Jewett flied out to left to end the game and the Bulldogs four-game winning streak.
The Bulldogs have won seven of their last nine games and won their last two MIAA series' before starting a doubleheader with Lincoln on Tuesday and a four-game series at home with Fort Hays State next weekend.
Inside the Series: Michael Reese has nine multi-hit games after going 9-for-16 (.563) in the series with five RBIs and had an on-base percentage of .632…four Bulldogs hit over .400 for the set with Reese, Jewett (.500), Devon Myers (.462) and Dan Plecki (.417)…as a team Truman hit .323…Steven Rose had a series-high six runs batted in…three Truman starters put up a 0.00 ERA while SBU hit just .218 for the series…the Bulldog pitching staff recorded 25 strikeouts to seven walks with Jarrett Eiskina leading the way with 10Ks.

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Truman's dynamic duo once again had opposing hitters baffled as the Bulldogs swept a conference doubleheader from Southwest Baptist on Friday. Truman took game one 2-0 behind Ryan Trimble's complete-game one-hitter and the 'Dogs plated a dozen in a 12-0 victory behind Jarrett Eiskina.
Michael Reese had the big day at the plate as he went 3-for-3 in game one with an insurance RBI in the top of the seventh after Dan Plecki staked the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead with his team-leading third home run of the season leading off the fourth.
In game two, Reese went 3-for-6 with an RBI and run scored with Steven Rose collecting three RBIs. In addition to Reese and Rose, three other Bulldogs had multi-hit games. Scott Doggett was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs with his double in the third inning breaking the game open at 5-0. The Bearcats committed five errors in the second game with three coming in the first three frames.
The story continues to be the strong pitching by the Bulldogs over the past couple of weeks. The last two MIAA pitchers of the week, Trimble and Eiskina, were dominating in the sweep. Trimble allowed just a bloop single to right field in the third inning en route to posting his second straight complete-game shutout. Trimble won his third straight decision with three Ks and 14 ground ball outs while lowering his ERA to 1.80. He has thrown 23 1/3 scoreless innings.
Eiskina fanned 10 SBU hitters while allowing just two hits through seven innings before being lifted in the eight for Logan Siegler. Christian Witt fanned two more Bearcats in the ninth to extend the team's overall scoreless streak to 24 1/3 innings.
The teams will continue their four-game series with another twinbill on Saturday.
Series Preview:
The Truman baseball team will look to ride the momentum of their first series victory of the season as they head to Bolivar, Mo. on Friday and Saturday with a four-game set with the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats. The Bulldogs took three of four from the Northwest Missouri Bearcats this past weekend and have won five of their last eight.
Series Schedule:
The four-game series is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with a seven-inning game to be followed by a nine-inning game. The teams will play the same format on Saturday starting an hour earlier at noon. In the event the first game of the day goes into extra innings, the second game will be shifted to a seven-inning game.
Bulldog Bites:
· The Bulldogs are hitting .233 with 29 extra base hits. The team has 23 doubles, three triples and three home runs to go with 31 stolen bases.
· Junior Devon Myers leads the team with a .348 batting average and is one of two Bulldogs to play and start in all 20 games (Steven Rose). Myers and junior Dan Plecki lead the team with 10 runs batted in.
· Michael Reese leads the team in stolen bases with nine steals in nine attempts while Kenny Swanson is second with seven steals out of eight tries. As a team, the Bulldogs are 73% successful in stolen base attempts (31-of-42).
· The Bulldog offense has scored 21% of the time when reaching by walk, error or hit by pitch (17-of-78) while on the other side of the coin, opponents are scoring 40% of the time when reaching by the same means (35-of-87)
· The pitching staff has a 4.42 earned run average through 20 games. Opponents are hitting .273 with 46 extra base hits (32 doubles, five triples and nine home runs.).
· Truman is fourth in the MIAA in ERA with their 4.42, while the starters have a 3.59 ERA.
· The hurlers have over a two-to-one strikeout to walk ratio as the Bulldogs have fanned 127 opposing hitters while issuing just 48 walks. On average, the staff is averaging 6.3 Ks per game.
· The Bulldog pitchers have a 1.33 WHIP while the Bulldog hitters have a 1.18 WHIP.
· Junior Ryan Trimble leads the team with a 2.18 earned run average in 33 innings pitched. The four starters (Trimble, Jarrett Eiskina, Tyler Stefan and Kyle Veazey) have 3.59 ERA and have chewed up 128 of the 161 innings pitched this season.
· Chris Allard (six appearances) and Christian Witt (five appearances) and) lead the bullpen in appearances. Allard has two saves and a 3.86 ERA in seven innings pitched while Witt has a 6.35 ERA in 5.2 innings pitched.

Inside Last Week's Series w/Northwest
- It was Truman's first MIAA series win this season and third under Coach Dan Davis
- The 3-0 game one complete game shutout by Ryan Trimble was the first by a Bulldog pitcher since Paul Cornejo in 2000 while first shutout since 2006 against Missouri S&T. Game two's shutout was the first back-to-back shutout since 1990 (Culver-Stockton).
- It was the first road MIAA series win since 2005 (Missouri S&T, two-of-three)
- All four Truman starters pitched and completed all four games, the foursome allowed just four earned runs and struck out 37 Bearcat hitters while issuing just six walks
- Northwest also used just four pitchers with Jayson Huett relieving in the seventh of day two's first game and starting the next
- Both schools hit under .200 for the series (Truman .189, Northwest .163)
- Five of Truman's eight runs in the series came with two outs
- Steven Rose hit .357 for the Bulldogs (5-of-14) while Drew Garwood and Jordan Howe also hit above .300 for Truman (.333)

About The Opponents:
· The Bearcats have won once out of their last 11 games, a 4-3 series opening win last weekend against Pittsburg State.
· Niko Saladis leads Southwest Baptist with a .353 batting average and has hit safely in his last 16 games. Saladis is tied with Paden Grubbs and Landon Young with nine runs batted in.
· As a team, SBU hits .290 with 29 of their 158 hits going for extra bases. They are 15-of-22 in the stolen base department.
· The pitching staff has a 6.49 team ERA with opponents hitting .295. Opponents have stolen 37-of-45 bases against SBU catching.
· Phillip Davolt has appeared in a team leading seven games, with one start, and has a 3.86 ERA.
Up Next:
Truman will play a midweek doubleheader against Lincoln University on Tuesday in Jefferson City. It is the first season back in the conference for the Blue Tigers since 1999. Lincoln is 6-11 and 5-11 in the MIAA before their weekend set at the University of Central Missouri.
