Bearcats Claw Back for Last-Second Win

Box Score | Season Stats
MARYVILLE, Mo. - - A runner by Abby Henry with 4.7 seconds to play marked the only lead of the day by Northwest Missouri, as the host Bearcats came from behind to steal a 58-57 win against the Truman women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

Becka McHenry led all players with 19 points and added eight rebounds and four assists, but the Bulldogs doubled their season average in turnovers with 24 to allow the Bearcats (3-11, 1-6 MIAA) to loiter all afternoon. Truman (8-4, 3-4 MIAA) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first half and led by as many as 11, never relinquishing the lead until Henry's bucket in the final seconds of regulation.

After a Bianca Szafarowicz steal with 20 seconds to play and the Bulldogs ahead by one at 57-56, the Bearcats fouled McHenry with Truman in the double-bonus. However, McHenry couldn't get either chance to drop, allowing Northwest to transition and set up the eventual game-winner. A last chance full court effort by McHenry came up short and after the horn.

For the game, Truman shot 34.6% from the field and went 3-for-11 from three-point range while Northwest was nearly identical at 34.5% with just one triple. The Bulldogs out-rebounded NWMSU 48-35, with McHenry's eight and Szafarowicz's seven pacing the purple and white.

Breanna Daniels added 10 points and four rebounds, while both Megan Sharpe and Nicole Gloor chipped in seven points apiece.

The Bulldogs will try to snap a three-game losing streak at Missouri Western on Wednesday (Jan. 11) night at 5:30 pm in St. Joseph, Mo.
