Wrestling Falls In NWCA Duals

St. Cloud State Results | Northern State Results | Ouachita Baptist Results

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Truman wrestling team suffered a pair of dual match losses at the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II National Duals tournament on Saturday in Springfield. The Bulldogs lost their opening match to #3 St. Cloud State (Minn.) 47-6 and dropped the consolation match to Northern State (S.D.) 39-12. Sophomore Ryan Maus picked up two pin fall wins for the Bulldogs.

St. Cloud State showed why they were previously number one in the country as they scored five pin fall wins over the Bulldogs in the opening match of the dual tournament.

Truman's lone highlight was again Maus who pinned Josh Howk at the 4:47 mark of the 149-pound match.

Against Northern State, the Wolves scored pinfall victories in their first two matches only to see Alex and Ryan Maus knot the dual win pins of their own. Alex took down Terrance Fox 1:45 into the match and Ryan pinned Beau Voegeli in the second period.

After the Maus' brothers tied up the dual with Northern at 12 apiece, Neil Sell was able to score an 8-6 win over Truman's Devon Fenstermaker in the 157-pound bout to give the Wolves the three-point advantage.

Northern State would then win the next five matches to win the dual 39-12 and end Truman's tournament.

The Bulldogs will head to Marshall, Mo. for a dual with Missouri Valley next Saturday followed by a tournament at the University of Central Missouri on Sunday.
