RECAP: Reeves Comes Up Short In National Bid For Truman Wrestling

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – An overtime loss in the third place match denied Truman's Sam Reeves of his second trip to the NCAA Division II nationals. Reeves lost to Jared McKindley of Lindenwood 5-3 and went 2-2 on the day at the NCAA Super Region IV meet.
 
Reeves picked up a 7-2 win over McKindley to start the day but lost a hard fought 1-0 decision to the top seeded Ethan Sheretz of Maryville. Sheretz was ranked number two nationally in the 197-pound weight class. Reeves then defeated #12 nationally, Colton Looper (Central Oklahoma) by a 6-5 score in the wrestleback semifinals. With a trip to nationals on the line, McKindley was able to avenge his previous defeat and won in extra time 5-3.
 
Zach Williard went 2-2 on the day at 133. He defeated Michael Crockett (Ouachita Baptist) by fall at 5:32 but was sent to the other side of the draw following a 12-3 loss to Tyler Lawley (Newman). Williard stayed afloat with a 12-2 win over Drury's Jake Byrd but then bowed out to nationally-ranked #9 Charles McNeal of McKendree by a 12-4 score.
 
Caleb Osborn lost both his matches by fall. He was defeated in 3:58 by top seeded and top ranked Brandon Ball of Fort Hays State then lost to Tyler Stegall of Maryville in 4:58.
 
Nathan Wunderlich lost by fall to Tyler Mies (Newman) and then by tech fall to Ty Lucas (Central Oklahoma).
 
Zach Taylor lost two matches by fall. He lost to Tyler Harrington of Maryville and Martin Verhaeghe of Fort Hays State at 165. Harrington was ranked fifth in the nation.
 
Vin Kriegshauser drop his first bout to Aryus Jones of Fort Hays State by tech fall. He picked up a pin fall win over Kyle Summers (Lindenwood) at the 3:39 mark but was exited from the draw following a 6-0 loss to Ben Gadbois of Central Missouri.
 
Shane Gallagher rounded out the Truman contingent at 184. He lost by tech fall to number two nationally Heath Gray (Central Oklahoma) then fell by a 16-2 decision to Micquille Robinson of Fort Hays State.
