RECAP: DI SIUE Downs Truman Wrestling Sunday

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill - Division I Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated the Truman Wrestling team 50-3 in a dual match on Sunday afternoon.

The dual started at 285 with a pair of forfeit wins for the Cougars at both the 285 and 125 weight classes.

Zach Williard defeated Austin Macias by a 12-5 decision at 133. Lucas Bernal pinned Caleb Osborn in the second period at 141.

Skipping over to 157 saw Justin Ruffin pin Nathan Wutherlich in the first period. Nate Higgins won by technical fall over Zach Taylor. Cameron Kelly pinned Vin Kriegshauser at the 1:28 mark and Sergio Villalobos pinned Shane Gallagher with 30 seconds left in the first at 184.

The final match of the dual was Jake Godinez holding on to a 3-2 win over Sam Reeves at 197.

The team will compete starting next Saturday at the NCAA regional qualifying tournament in St. Charles, Missouri on the campus of Lindenwood University. The top placers in each weight class will qualify for the NCAA National Championships in March.
