Total Team Effort Lifts Bulldogs Over Lions 72-62

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Allie Norton and Becka McHenry each scored 18 points and the Truman Women's Basketball team got key contributions for a host of others in a 72-62 win over Missouri Southern State University on Saturday afternoon in Pershing Arena.
 
After leading the entire first half, Southern scored nine straight during a two minute span to take a four-point lead with about 13 minutes left to play. The two teams exchanged three-pointers before Megan Sharpe powered a basket in to spark a 22-8 run.
 
Sharpe then forced a turnover on the defensive end and in the next possession, instead of going to the hoop, dished the ball to a wide-open Courtney Strait and the freshman knocked down her third triple of the game as the Bulldog retook the would not relinquish.
 
Norton followed with eight points during the run and finished the day with four threes, and a game-high five assists.
 
Southern grabbed 15 more rebounds than Truman but the Bulldogs forced 24 Lion turnovers.
 
McHenry was 6-of-11 from the field and nearly perfect from the charity stripe making six of seven attempts. As a team, Truman made 14-of-16 from the line.
 
Nicole Gloor was the third 'Dog in double-figures as she scored 11 points and forced two turnovers by taking charges on the defensive end.  Jennifer Conway led Truman in rebounding with six.
 
Shonte Clay was 5-of-6 from the field for a game-high 10 points for the Lions, who shot nearly 52% from the field but were plagued by the turnovers.
 
The Bulldogs won their third straight over the Lions and fifth in last six meetings.
The team will be off until December 17 when they travel to west coast to face California Baptist. Tip off time is slated for 9:30 p.m. (cst).
