JOPLIN, Mo. – Derek Atwood and Ryan Peterson brought home individual titles and Jennifer Zweifel broke a nearly 30-year old school record in the final day of the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Joplin on Sunday. Atwood won the shot put and Peterson the 600 yard run while Zweifel came in second in the long jump.

Atwood became the first Bulldog since Sean Bergstedt in 2007 to win an indoor individual title as he shattered his previous best mark in the shot put by throwing 56-10.25. His earlier best was 53-07.00 set in 2010. He was also the first Truman indoor shot put winner since Rich Hayward won the event in 1988. Atwood's mark was a provisional and currently 11th in Division II.

After qualifying first in the 600 yard run, Peterson won by a second in the finals running 1:12.51 to become the second Bulldog champion on the day.

Zweifel's first jump of the day went 19-00.50 to break Lisa Moats' 1983 Truman record of 18-11.25. It was an NCAA provisional mark and ranks ninth in Division II.  This comes a day after she broke her own school record in the triple jump.

Anne Ratermann earned two all-conference awards on Sunday as she finished third in both the 800 meter run and mile. She ran 2:17.98 in the finals of the 800 after qualifying fourth and ran a personal best time 5:01.22 in the mile.

Karen Grauel finished fourth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:16.96 while Cindy Grauel ran a personal best 10:25.21 to place seventh.

As a team, the Truman women finished fourth overall with 65 points as Lincoln won the league title followed by Central Missouri and Missouri Southern. The men scored 29 points and finished ninth.

Those with provisional marks throughout the season will wait to see if they will make the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships set for March 9-10 in Mankato, Minn. Zweifel set an automatic mark in the triple jump and will be competing that weekend.
