Helmut Rentschler and
Zach Hayes led the Truman wrestling contingent at the Missouri Valley College Open on Sunday. The Bulldogs will host the MIAA Duals in Pershing Arena this Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
Fenstermaker was seeded fourth in the 157-pound bracket and won his first two matches to reach the quarterfinals. He lost to fifth-seeded Jimmie Schuessler 8-1 before rebounding in the wrestlebacks to defeat Missouri's Gary Lindsay 6-1. Lindsay's Missouri teammate Trevor Weist knocked Fenstermaker out of the tournament with a 3-2 decision.
Hayes won his first match by tech fall but fell to the consolation bracket after a pin fall loss to fifth seeded Shawn Michalek. He then reeled off three straight wins by fall, a 9-4 decision and an 11-10 win before losing 2-0 to Zach Grimes.
Rentschler lost his first bout 11-5 but bounced back with two pin fall victories. In the final match before the medal round, Rentschler was defeated by two points, 6-4, by Jared Price to end his tournament.
The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season on Sunday when they host the University of Central Missouri, Lindenwood and Fort Hays State in the third annual MIAA Duals beginning at 1:00 p.m.
