Dorsey No-Hitter Leads Bulldogs in Tuesday Split

Freshman Kelsea Dorsey threw Truman's first no-hitter in nearly two seasons, striking out seven Lions in Truman's 14-0 game one win.

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Behind Kelsea Dorsey's first career no-hitter and 14 runs backing the Bulldog offense in game one, the Truman softball team split on Tuesday afternoon with Lindenwood (Mo.) University, winning 14-0 in five innings before falling 4-1 in the finale.

Two hit Lion batters in the second and fourth inning of game one stood between Dorsey (Clarksville, Mo., Clopton) and a perfect game on Tuesday afternoon, marking the seventh Truman no-hitter in program history and first in nearly two years. Dorsey struck out seven in five innings pitched and needed just 73 pitches to complete the milestone.

Truman (19-24) produced two, seven-run innings that led to the shortened contest. In the second inning, the Bulldogs produced all seven runs with two outs. Kristin Grossman (Glen Ellyn, Ill., Glenbard South) ignited the offense by singling to right, followed by Corey Niblett (Troy, Mo., Troy Buchanan) drawing a walk. Laura Miller (Columbia, Mo., Hickman) proceeded to single up the middle in front of a continued rally, punctuated by a grand slam by Bridget Schade (Herculaneum, Mo., Herculaneum). The 'Dogs batted around, sending 11 batters to the plate in the inning.

The 'Dogs sent 11 more up to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven off of six hits and one Lindenwood error.

Schade's blast marked her team-high 11^th homerun of the season, going 2-for-3 from the plate with five RBI's. Liz Leath (St. Charles, Mo., Francis Howell Central) and Grossman finished game one going 2-for-3 as well, while Miller produced three RBI's in going 2-for-4. The 14-run margin of victory marked the largest Bulldog win since a similar 14-0 win against Southwest Baptist on March 30, 2005 in Kirksville.

Game two didn't go quite as smoothly for the Bulldogs as four untimely errors gave Lindenwood (12-27) the 4-1 advantage in the end. Lindenwood scored in the first after a fielding error on the first play of the game. Truman answered with one in the bottom half but never was able to recover after a fourth inning Lion two-run homerun. Lindenwood tacked on an additional insurance run in the sixth thanks to two Bulldog miscues for the three-run win.

Schade finished the afternoon going 4-for-6 with six total RBI's. Leath added a pair of hits in game two.

The Bulldogs will jump back into MIAA play this weekend by hosting Fort Hays (Kan.) State on Friday at noon before welcoming Washburn (Kan.) at the same time on Saturday.
