KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Truman State senior outfielder Cassie Smith has been recognized by two national organizations following an outstanding final season, earning NFCA Division II Midwest All-Region First Team honors and a spot on the D2CCA Midwest All-Region Second Team.
Smith led the GLVC in batting average (.488) and was top-five in hits (81) this season across 52 games, adding 15 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 25 RBI, and 28 stolen bases. She was also named to the All-GLVC First Team last week.
The NFCA selection places Smith among the top players in the Midwest region regardless of conference, joining McKendree's Lauren Harris and Sami Huck, Indianapolis' Caitlin Bunte and Brooklyn Willis, Lewis' Morgan Spodarek, William Jewell's Mikayla Chairez, and others on the First Team. The D2CCA Second Team honor adds a second piece of postseason hardware from a separate national body, recognizing Smith among the region's elite for the second straight time in the same week.
Smith closes out her Bulldog career with back-to-back postseason recognition at the regional level, capping one of the finest offensive seasons in recent Truman softball history.
