KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Truman State sophomore infielder Shanna Buford has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the first career Player of the Week honor for Buford, a native of Donnellson, Iowa majoring in Agricultural Science.
Buford was dominant at the plate over the weekend as the Bulldogs closed out the 2025-26 season with a pair of doubleheaders, going 4-for-7 with a walk across the four games for a .571 batting average and .625 on-base percentage. She slugged two home runs for a 1.429 slugging percentage, drove in six runs, and scored five times herself.
Her best performance came in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at Maryville, where she went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base to help Truman close the season with an 8-1 victory. Buford also hit a three-run home run in the second game at UMSL on Saturday, a blast to left-center that capped a 10-3 Bulldog win.
Buford is the first Truman player to earn the weekly honor since Nina Fenasci took home the award on April 8, 2025.
The award is the final GLVC weekly honor of the season. McKendree senior pitcher Sami Huck was named Pitcher of the Week after tossing a pair of five-inning shutouts, including a no-hitter against Quincy, to run her record to 21-6 on the year.
Truman finished the 2025-26 season 20-32 overall and 12-16 in the GLVC.
