Myers' Record Setting Day Leads To Bulldog Sweep

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Senior Devon Myers eclipsed the Bulldog all-time career hit record in a Truman doubleheader sweep over Maryville University on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won their ninth straight one-run game as they took the opener 2-1 and used a big third inning to finish off the Saints 8-3 in the nightcap.
 
Myers went 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored in the twinbill as Truman won their third straight game and 10 of their last 14 games. The Bulldogs will host Pittsburg State in the final conference series of the season starting Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Truman 2, Maryville 1
The Saints had nine hits but it was two of Truman's three hits that gave them the win in the opener. Maryville got on the board first in the fourth as Colby White singled in Bryce Bastien with two outs. Myers led off the bottom of the inning and tied Patrick Hardin's career record of 191 hits with a solo home run, his fourth of the season and 13th for his career. In the sixth, Myers drew a walk to start the inning, advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Pete Jurich and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Daniel Jewett.  Tyler Stefan came in to relieve Paul McMahon after a walk in the seventh and got a pop up out on a bunt attempt and a double play to end it. It was Truman's ninth straight one-run victory this season.

Myers record breaking single past a diving second basemen with the bases load broke open a 2-1 game in the third as Truman scored four times in the inning to take command.  Jarod Hahn doubled and scored the game's first run and Blake Marino RBI single scoring Daniel Jewett in the second put Truman back on top. Will Nader led off the third with a single followed by hits from Zak Larkin and Hahn to set up the dramatics for Myers.  The Bulldog senior added another single in the fourth to push his total to 193 with eight games left. Hahn doubled in another run in the sixth. Jarrett Eiskina  picked up his third win of the season going five innings and scattering four hits and one run while striking out five. Chris Allard and Joe Emery finished the game off.
