Truman Turns Up The D For A 72-39 Win Over Central Oklahoma

Box Score | Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team turned in their best defensive performance of the season as they pounded MIAA newcomer the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday night 72-39. It was the lowest point total allowed by the Bulldogs this season and lowest allowed in conference play over a decade.

The Bulldogs (11-2; 4-1 MIAA) held the visiting Bronchos (8-5; 1-4 MIAA) scoreless for nearly 11 minutes covering the end of the first and start of the second half. Truman was nearly held in check during that same period but a three-pointer by Becka McHenry at the end of the first half sparked the Bulldogs as they took a 33-22 lead into the locker room.

The momentum would carry over in the second as the Bulldogs scored the first 11 points to put the game away. The Bulldogs won their second straight conference game by more than 20 points and tied a school record with their ninth straight home win.

The 39 points allowed was the fewest given up by the Bulldogs in conference play since January 23, 2002 when they defeated Missouri S&T 61-23.

Both the Bulldogs and Bronchos received votes in this week's WBCA/USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll.

All 11 Truman players scored with three in double-figures. McHenry had a dozen while Jennifer Conway added 11 and Megan Sharpe had 10. Truman dominated the glass with a 49-29 rebounding advantage.

Whitney Dunn was the only UCO player in double-figures with 12.

Truman will host Emporia (Kan.) State on Saturday afternoon in Pershing Arena. The Lady Hornets ended Truman's run last season at the MIAA postseason tournament in Kansas City. Tip time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
