COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Senior Casey Jepsen and redshirt freshman Evyn Spencer both earned two top-10 finishes as individuals, highlighting the opening event of the 2013-14 season for the Truman women's and men's swimming teams at the Missouri Show-Me Meet.
 
Jepsen, a six-time NCAA Div. II all-American, placed sixth in the 100 Free with a time of 54.49 after taking home seventh place in the 200 Free at 1:56.91. Spencer, meanwhile, made a splash in her first meet as a Bulldog, earning a third-place finish in the 100 Free at 53.56 while also taking home eighth place in the 100 back at 1:00.35.
 
Other top-10 finishes on the night for the Bulldog women included:

  • Freshman Hannah Nicks – 7th in the 50 Free (24.91)
  • Junior Abby Hempen – 8th in the 100 Breast (1:08.49)
  • Senior Margaux Kent – 9th in the 100 Breast (1:08.82)
In addition, the 200 Free Relay squad, consisting of Spencer, freshman Allison Strickler, Nicks, and Jepsen brought home third-place, touching the wall in a time of 1:39.13.
 
As a team, the Bulldog women placed sixth in the eight-team meet with a team score of 232. That put the squad just behind Washington University-St. Louis by two points for fifth-place. The University of Missouri took home the team title with a score of 629.50.
 
Meanwhile, the Bulldog men's squad had one individual card a top-12 result, as junior Etienne Thro grabbed 12th-place in the 50 Free with a time of 21.87. The Bulldog men finished in eighth place as a team, scoring 44 points on the night. Mizzou also won the team title on the men's side to complete the sweep.
 
The Bulldogs return to competition in two weekends with home meets on Oct. 18-19 in the Pershing Natatorium. The women's squad hosts Division I Illinois State at 6:00 pm on Oct. 18, before both teams face off against Lindenwood at noon on Oct. 19.
