Truman Falls To Grand Valley State 81-68

Box Score

NASHVILLE – The Truman Women's Basketball team suffered from a cold shooting night as they fell to Grand Valley (Mich.) State 81-68 on Friday night. The Bulldogs will be back in action against the host Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (3-1) never led against the Lakers (1-0) as Truman made just four of 20 three-point attempts and shot 33% from the field for the contest. Truman did crash the board to a 53-40 margin and had 21 offensive rebounds but had just 13 second-chance points off the offensive boards.

Grand Valley also had a huge discrepancy from the foul line shooting 42 free throws to the Bulldogs 18. The Lakers converted on 32 (76.2%) makes to outscore Truman by 18 from the line.

The Lakers led by as many as 11 before Truman stormed back with a 9-3 run to make it five with five minutes left in the first half. Grand Valley extended the lead to double-figures at half.

Michalina Tomczak's basket at the 13:4 mark pulled Truman to within five at 52-47 but then the lid seemed to close on the Bulldog shooting as the Lakers went on a 21-6 run and took their largest lead at 73-53 with just under three minutes left to play.

Bianca Szafarowicz notched her second double-double through four games with 15 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out and was joined in double-figure scoring by Amy Briggs' 1 and Nicole Gloor's 10. Courtney Strait added a career-high 11 rebounds.

The Lakers were paced by Piper Tucker's 15 points.
