Bulldogs Dominate Grand View For Sixth Win

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - After spotting the visiting Grand View (Iowa) University Vikings the first basket of the night, the Truman women scored the next 10 points and eventually cruised to a 91-49 victory in Pershing Arena on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a road game against rival Quincy (Ill.) on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.

Mika Rodewald scored on the Vikings (5-5) first trip down the floor to put Grand View up 2-0 but then the Bulldogs reeled off 10 straight points to take control. Grand View trimmed the lead to three midway through the first half but another 15-3 spurt by the Bulldogs sealed the victory.

Bianca Szafarowicz started the run with five of her career-high 18 points and Nicole Gloor added six of her dozen during the run. Michalina Tomczak also notched a career-high in scoring with 14 points and six rebounds and was the third Bulldog in double-figure scoring.

Truman converted on 28-of-36 free throw attempts but hit just three of 15 long range shots on the night. The Bulldogs again won the rebounding battle with a 46 to 31 edge including 16 offensive rebounds.

Rodewald was the only Vikings player to crack double-figures with her 13 points. Grand View missed all three of their three-point attempts and finished shooting 32% for the game.

It was Truman's 19th straight home victory with the team having to wait until the new calendar year for a chance at 20. The Bulldogs travel to Quincy on Saturday for their inaugural GLVC game against the undefeated Lady Hawks then will be on the road for a final non-conference game against Pittsburg (Kan.) on December 18. The Bulldogs will return to Pershing Arena following two more road GLVC games in early January when they host Illinois-Springfield on the ninth.
