ST. JOSEPH, Mo.  - - A three-hit day for both senior Laura Miller and junior Kelsey Bollman – coupled with a complete-game, five-hitter by freshman Kindra Henze – gave the Truman softball team a split on Saturday afternoon at 25th-ranked Missouri Western State University.

The Bulldogs (21-11, 9-7 MIAA) lost game one 7-1 but bounced back to take game two by a 6-2 score to earn the second win of the year against a ranked opponent. Truman is now 2-3 this season against ranked teams, having also picked up a win against now-No. 1 Indianapolis (Ind.) during the first weekend of the regular season.

Truman hit .321 as a team on the day and limited the Griffons (27-11, 11-5 MIAA) to just two extra-base hits in the twinbill.

The Bulldogs face a fast turnaround on Sunday, taking the field at 10:00 am for a doubleheader at Northwest Missouri State (20-12, 8-8 MIAA).

Game 1 Recap – L 7-1 (Box Score):
A disastrous sixth-inning that saw the Griffons record six runs on six hits proved to be the back-breaker in game one, as Missouri Western snapped a 1-1 tie to deal the 'Dogs a 7-1 setback.

Truman jumped out to a quick lead, as Miller and Bollman both singled in the top of the first. Miller would come across to score on a wild pitch; however, following the two-hit first, Truman managed just two more hits in the final six innings at the plate. Ally McReynolds notched a double, while Bollman swiped a bag, but it wasn't enough as Hannah Washburn picked up the loss after going 5.2 innings and striking out four.

Game 2 Recap – W 6-2 (Box Score):
The Bulldogs scored in four of the final five innings to notch a split with the nationally-ranked Griffons, as Truman pounded out 13 hits and never looked back after building a four-run lead.

Cate Simon started things in the third with an RBI single to right that brought home Andrea Klipsch, before McReynolds led off the top of the fourth with her second homerun of the year. Klipsch later followed with an RBI groundout in front of a Bollman RBI double to left for the 4-0 advantage.

After the Griffons answered with one in the bottom half, Truman got it right back in the fifth when Meredith Kusky singled to left and plated pinch-runner Nikki Moss for a 5-1 lead. Kristin Grossman finished things in the seventh by singling to third, bringing home pinch-runner Danielle Lewellen for the team's sixth run of the game.

Henze needed just 72 pitches to go the distance, holding the Griffs to just five hits and two runs. She didn't walk a batter in earning her sixth win (6-4) of the season.
