MARYVILLE, Mo.  - - Kristin Grossman, Meredith Kusky and Andrea Klipsch all homered, but the Truman softball team hit just .231 overall in dropping both games of a doubleheader at Northwest Missouri on Sunday. The Bulldogs lost 8-3 in game one before falling 4-2 in the finale.

Truman (21-13, 9-9 MIAA) had leads in both games, jumping ahead 1-0 in game one and 2-0 in game two but couldn't hold on, as Northwest (22-12, 10-8 MIAA) protected its home field on a blustery day.

The Bulldogs, having played five straight doubleheaders on the road, return to Kirksville for a flurry of games in a five-day stretch, playing four home doubleheaders starting on Friday, April 19 against Northeastern (Okla.) State at 1:00 pm.

Game 1 Recap – L 8-3 (Box Score):
Northwest scored all eight runs during a three inning stretch in the middle of the game, setting the Bulldogs back with an 8-3 decision. Laura Miller started things off for the 'Dogs in the third, bringing home Kusky with an RBI groundout, but the Bearcats scored five straight between the third and fourth innings for a 5-1 lead.

Kusky homered to left in the fifth and Grossman added a blast to left-center in the sixth, but the Bearcats added insurance with a three-run shot of their own in the fifth to pick up the win.

Miller, Klipsch and Kusky each recorded two hits, while Hannah Washburn was hit with the loss by giving up all eight runs in four innings. Kirsten Krause closed the game, holding NWMSU scoreless during the final six outs.

Game 2 Recap – L 4-2 (Box Score):
Truman got on top 2-0 through four innings, as Klipsch homered to right-center in the third before Whitney Richardson singled home pinch-runner Nikki Moss in the fourth.

However, the Bearcats retaliated again, scoring two in both the fifth and sixth innings off starter Kindra Henze, and limited the Bulldogs to just four total hits to earn the 4-2 victory.

The 'Dogs went just 4-for-25 from the plate in the game, with Henze going the distance and giving up nine hits while striking out one.
