Williams' Sparks Offense In Spilt With Lindenwood

ST. CHALRES, Mo. – Corbin Williams had three doubles and along with Paul Trenhaile drove in four runs as Truman Baseball split a conference doubleheader with Lindenwood on Tuesday by scores of 8-3 Lions in the opener and 12-8 Bulldogs in the nightcap. The Bulldogs games against Maryville on Wednesday have been postponed until Tuesday, April 16th.
 
The Bulldogs hit .309 during the games with Williams going six of 10 with three doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs. He also added a pair of stolen basses and Truman swiped six of seven bags during the doubleheader.

Truman had four of their eight hits go for doubles with Corbin Williams collecting two of them but five unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning was the Bulldogs undoing in an 8-3 loss in the opener.
 
After leaving Williams stranded at third base in the top of the first, the Lions took the lead with a one-out error and a run-scoring double by Mike Failoni. A two-out double allowed one more to score and Kyle Leslie doubled in a pair.
 
The Lions added two more runs in the second and an eighth run in the sixth.
 
Truman scored their runs with a double by Chris Zrostlik in the fourth. Williams doubled in Jordan Howe in the seventh and Paul Trenhaile plated Zak Larkin before the final out was recorded.
 
Austin Klein was the winner going six and two-thirds.

The offense broke out in the final half of the nine inning game as Truman had 13 hits and took advantage of eight Lindenwood errors to defeat the Lions 12-8 in the series finale between the two programs for the season.
 
Corbin Williams remained hot as he had three base hits to go along with three runs score and three RBIs. He singlehandedly put Truman on the board in the first as he reached on a dropped third strike and went to second when the throw went into right field. He stole third and came in on a ground out by Paul Trenhaile.
 
The Lions took the lead with a three-run second inning highlighted by a pair of doubles and added an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to lead 4-1.
 
Following a Lion pitching change to start the fifth, Truman scored three times in the frame with singles by Williams and Trenhaile and a double from Blake Marino.
 
Lindenwood retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Mike Failoni singled and advanced on a passed ball and wild pitch before scoring on a sac fly from Nathanss Prindle.
 
The Bulldogs grabbed the lead back with five runs in the sixth. Adam Bainbridge singled to start the inning and Jordan Howe was hit by a pitch. The runners moved up on a groundout and Williams singled in Bainbridge. Trenhaile followed with a single that scored Howe and Marino brought in another with a foul out down the right field line.
 
The Lions pulled to within one in the seventh as Failoni and Prindle each had RBI hits but Andrew Range was called upon to get the final out of the inning leaving the tying runner at third.
 
Howe had a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth and Williams belted a two-run double to add insurance for the Bulldogs.
 
Tyler Spencer, the fifth 'Dog pitcher of the game, allowed the first two Lions to reach in the bottom of the inning but then started a double-play and induced a grounder to preserve the win.
 
Cody Gardner got the win in relief for Truman.
