OVERLAND PARK, Kan.  - - The Truman softball team recorded a split in two games on day two at the MIAA tournament, defeating Pittsburg (Kan.) State 4-3 in the opener before dropping a 6-2 decision to Emporia (Kan.) State in the finale.

The Bulldogs finished the season 29-18 after posting a 1-2 mark at the program's final conference tournament. Kelsey Bollman and Cate Simon totaled three hits each in Saturday's two games, while Kristin Grossman blasted a homerun with three of the team's six total RBIs.

Truman wasted no time in the first elimination game of the day, pouring four runs on the board in the home half of the first inning against Pitt State for a quick 4-0 lead. Bollman opened things up with a two-RBI single through the left side before Liz Leath added an RBI single of her own. Then, two batters later, Ally McReynolds drew a 13-pitch walk, forcing in a run and giving the 'Dogs an early cushion.

While the offense would cool off, Hannah Washburn earned win No. 17 by allowing just three runs and seven hits. PSU made things interesting with a two-run homerun in the top if the seventh, but Washburn induced a season-ending foulout to third for the Gorillas to send the Bulldogs on to the next round.

Despite gaining momentum in the opener, the Bulldogs fell behind early to Emporia in the consolation semifinals and couldn't recover, coming on the short end of a 6-2 score. After ESU jumped ahead 2-0 after two, Bollman again delivered an RBI single, this time in the third, to cut the Hornet lead to 2-1.

ESU would build a 6-1 lead before Grossman lifted a shot over the left-center field fence for what would eventually be a 6-2 final.

Truman will await word regarding a potential NCAA bid on Monday morning after sitting 10th in the region entering the weekend. Should the Bulldogs not qualify for the NCAA postseason, head coach Erin Brown's squad will return six of nine field starters, all three hitting reserves, and both starting pitchers, for the 2014 season – the team's first in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
