Swimming Recap: Truman Women Compete Against Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. – Evyn Spencer won both the 100 Fly and 200 IM on Friday afternoon as the Truman Women's Swimming team lost in a dual with Division I Illinois State 167-110. The Bulldogs will join the men at noon on Saturday as they will host Western Illinois and Lindenwood-Belleville in a triangular meet at the Truman Natatorium.

Spencer claimed the 100 Fly with a time of 57.82 and the 200 IM in 2:08.99 to bring home two of the three individual wins for the team. Kortney Betz was the first of three Bulldogs to clock times in the 500 Free with a time of 5:17.33.

Abby Hempen was second in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. In the 100 she swam 1:07.27 while in the 200 she touched the wall at 2:23.64. Nikki Sisson was second in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events, narrowly missing a first in the 100. She finished in 53.93 while the Redbirds Katherine Nelson finished in 53.59.

Libby Opfer had a close call in the 200 Fly finishing two-tenths behind Kristin Verkler's 2:10.21 time.

In the relays, Hannah Nicks, Hempen, Spencer and Alison Strickler swam 1:50.00 to place third in the 200 Yard Medley and Strickler, Betz, Jamie Fitzpatrick and Sisson were the fastest Truman team in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:40.47.
