Volleyball Recap: Moser Grabs School Record as 'Dogs Open with Sweep

AURORA, Ill. - - Senior libero Abby Moser took over sole possession atop the Truman career digs chart on Friday afternoon, as her match-high 17 digs helped send the Bulldogs to their 15th straight victory with a 3-0 sweep of Findlay (Ohio) at the GLVC/GLIAC crossover.

Moser broke a 20-year old record on Friday afternoon, as her sixth dig of the match sent her past Neely Forbes into first-place on the program's career digs list. She finished the match with 17 in just three sets, giving her 2,133 for her career.

Meanwhile, the Bulldog offense found a way to power through when it mattered the most, as Truman (17-2) held off the Oilers (11-6) with a pair of tight first (26-24) and second (27-25) sets.

UF appeared to be well in control to send the match to a fourth frame after jumping out to a 17-11 lead in the third; however, behind the serving of Abby Heise, the Bulldogs rattled off nine in a row to build a 20-17 edge. Findlay would never get closer than one the rest of the way, as a Meghan Zimmerman kill on match point sealed the 25-22 decision.

Truman's two outside hitters – sophomore Kayla Bastian and freshman Jasmine Brown – combined for 27 kills and a .351 hitting line for a total of 29 points. Meanwhile, both Heise and junior Ali Patterson chipped in a half-dozen kills each, with Bastian and junior Emilee Walters adding a team-best two blocks apiece.

"Findlay is a very tough serving team, but we did a really good job of staying steady and playing our game," head coach Ben Briney said. "We were able to climb back into the sets and be in positions to win at the end. I'm very proud of Abby – to break a record that has stood for 20 years is a great accomplishment."

The Bulldogs lead a dominating GLVC side into Saturday's action with matches at 10 a.m. (Ohio Dominican) and 4 p.m. (Ferris State). The GLVC posted a 21-3 record against the GLIAC on day one, with only the GLIAC's top seed – Grand Valley State – picking up a win amongst the top eight seeds.
