Volleyball Recap: Truman Takes Final Two At Crossover

AURORA, Ill. – The Truman Volleyball team ran their winning streak to 17 and was the only top-eight team at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover to go undefeated as the Bulldogs knocked off Ohio Dominican 3-1 and #15 Ferris (Mich.) State 3-2 on Saturday.

Sophomore Kayla Bastian was selected to the six-person all-tournament team after leading the Bulldogs with 52 kills and a .326 hitting percentage in the tournament. Ali Patterson had 12 blocks, Meghan Zimmerman had 119 assists and Abby Moser 65 digs in the three matches.

The Bulldogs started the day against Ohio Dominican and took the first two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-13. A third set hiccup resulted in the Panthers winning 25-22 before Truman sealed the victory with a 25-19 fourth set win.

Bastian had 20 kills in the match (.333) with Jasmine Brown adding 10. The team won the defensive battle with 11 blocks and held ODU to a .080 hitting mark.

Against #15-ranked Ferris State, Bastian and Abby Heise led Truman with 17 kills apiece and Patterson hit .343 with 17 kills and 23 digs.

The Truman Bulldogs raced out to win the first two sets 25-19 and 25-17 but watched as the Ferris State Bulldogs claimed sets three and four by scores of 25-19 and 25-11.

In the pivotal fifth set, Truman went on a 5-0 run to take command and led 9-2 at one point. Ferris fought back to get to within 14-11 before an attack error ended the match and gave Truman the win.

The Bulldogs will continue their nine-match road trip next weekend as they return to conference play with a pair of matches against East Division foes. Truman will play Bellarmine (Ky.) on Saturday and Southern Indiana on Sunday.
