Women's Soccer Recap: Truman 1, William Jewell 0

LIBERTY, Mo. - - Freshman Kelsey Murphy came off the bench to score the game's only goal, as the Truman women's soccer team picked up 1-0 shutout road victory at William Jewell on Friday afternoon.

Murphy checked in at the 14:30 mark, and then finished a feed from senior teammate Melanie Hunt in the 19th minute to put the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-1 GLVC) on top, 1-0.

From there, the Truman defense clamped down on the Cardinal (4-2-3, 3-2-2 GLVC) attack, limiting the home team to just three shots on keeper Katie Mattingly. The freshman, making her first start in a Truman uniform, picked up the shutout after making a key save in the 86th minute on a shot by WJC's Jade Gifford.

The Bulldogs took seven shots and put five on frame, led by Murphy's three of each off the bench. Senior defender Lauren Seawright took two shots, as Truman logged its third straight shutout victory.

Truman closes out the weekend with a road contest at Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon at noon. The Hawks bring an 8-1 overall record (5-1 GLVC) into its Friday night home match against Quincy.
