Men's Basketball Recap: Trevecca Nazarene 76, Truman 74

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - A back-and-forth affair tilted the way of the home team on Saturday afternoon, as host Trevecca Nazarene defeated the Truman men's basketball team by a 76-74 score in the final game of the Midwest Challenge at TNU.
 
Senior guard Seth Jackson scored 27 points in 28 minutes of action, hitting 9-of-16 shots from the field, including a three-pointer, to go alongside 8-of-13 free throws. He also tied for the team-high on the glass with sophomore guard Cory Myers, who nabbed six rebounds and handed out three assists off the bench.
 
Truman carried a 36-32 lead into the break, as the largest lead for either team on the night was 10 – gained by the Bulldogs at the 7:03 mark of the first half. From there, the contest was tightly contested, as the lead changed hands six times throughout the game.
 
Senior guard Reed Mells logged his second straight double-figure game offensively, scoring 17 points and dishing out a team-best five assists, while junior guard Cole Myers scored seven points off the bench. The Bulldogs shot 45% overall, but converted on just 6-of-26 three-point attempts and hit only 14-of-22 free throws.
 
TNU was led by Matt Gamberoni's 15-point, 13-rebound double-double, as all five Trojan started scored in double-figures.
 
The Bulldogs make a one-week stop in Kirksville before hitting the road next weekend to face Northern (S.D.) State in Aberdeen, S.D., on Sunday, Nov. 23. Tipoff from NSU's Barnett Center is set for 3 p.m.
