ALLENDALE, Mich. - - The No. 23 and Midwest region top-seeded Truman volleyball team had one foot out of a two sets to none hole it had dug, but the Bulldogs couldn't complete a five-set comeback in the semifinals of the NCAA Div. II Midwest regional on Friday night – falling 3-2 (16-25, 21-25, -22, -17, 12-15) to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Rockhurst in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena.

The Bulldogs close the 2014 season at 29-4 overall, having captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament title as well as the region's No. 1 seed.

Truman opened the match on fire, scoring the set's first six points and nine of the first 10 to build a 9-1 lead. However, the Hawks flipped the switch and went on a 15-2 run to build a 16-11 lead that also burned both the Bulldogs' set timeouts. The squads sided-out to 18-14 RU, before the Hawks closed the set with another 7-2 blast to win, 25-16.

In the second, the squads played evenly throughout the middle of the set, with Truman taking a 13-12 lead with an Abby Heise kill. Rockhurst, however, responded with an 8-3 run to go on top, 20-16, and force Truman's first timeout of the set. At 23-19 RU, a Jasmine Brown attack went off the Hawk block out of bounds, but an over-rule by the chair official called the block off Brown to set up set point for RU. After the Bulldogs salvaged two set points, Rockhurst was eventually able to go up 2-0 on a kill with a 25-21 decision.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-3 lead in set three, eventually leading by as many as five at 15-10. After continuing to lead all the way to 20-16, Rockhurst again drew even, knotting the set at 20-all. A Heise kill and a Bulldog double block gave Truman the lead at 23-21, before RU would get within one at 23-22. However, the set would go to the purple when Brown hammered one home before Emilee Walters and Meghan Zimmerman double-blocked RU's Morgan Rietzke for a 25-22 set win.

Rockhurst took an early advantage in the fourth set, putting Truman in an early 9-6 hole, before two Allie Brak kills – sandwiched between two Ali Patterson solo blocks – put the 'Dogs on top, 10-9. The lead went to 15-10 with the run extending to 9-1, before the Bulldogs kept RU at bay the rest of the way for a 25-17 fourth set decision.

The fifth set was a battle throughout, with neither team leading by three at any point. Truman eventually built up a 9-6 advantage, before Rockhurst scored six of eight to pull ahead, 12-11. After a Truman timeout, an attack ran long for 13-11 RU, before the Hawks aced a serve out of another 'Dog timeout to set up match point. A Brown kill kept Truman's hopes alive, but a final Rockhurst put-away capped the match and stopped Truman's comeback attempt at 15-12.

Brak capped her career with a 23-kill, 18-dig double-double, as she hit .279 with three block assists and an ace. Brown came off the bench to hit .265 with 13 kills and tack on four block assists, while Patterson came one kill shy of a double-double by finishing with nine kills and ten blocks (two solo, eight assisted). Heise reached double-figures offensively for the second straight match at the regional with 12 next to four blocks, while Walters added eight kills and five blocks for 10.5 total points.

Zimmerman set the Bulldog offense to a .203 attack line for the match, as she closed her Truman career with a 61-assist, 14-dig double-double. Abby Moser led five Bulldogs in double-figure digs, getting to 28 RU attack attempts to lead all players in her final match. Kayla Bastian also hit the 20-dig mark with an even 20, while Sidney King grabbed 12 digs of her own.

The Bulldogs out-hit RU .203 to .186 and out-blocked the Hawks 15-11. Truman served four aces and dug 106 attempts, while Rockhurst aced the Bulldogs five times and dug 113 Truman attacks.

The Bulldogs, will return four starters and nine letterwinners for the 2015 campaign that will begin next August. Seniors Allie Brak, Meghan Zimmerman, and Abby Moser leave the program after inking their names across the program's all-time kills, kills per set, total attempts, assists, assists per set, digs, digs per set, double-doubles, and total sets charts.
