CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - - The Truman teams continued to hold steady in second (women) and sixth (men) places, as day three of the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference championships came to a conclusion on Friday night.

The Bulldog women continued their impressive run at the inaugural championships, adding nine new NCAA B-cut time standards, while the Bulldog men were led by a 5th-place finish in the 100 Fly by Etienne Thro and a 6th-place finish in the 100 Breast by Neil Girmus. Both were also part of the squad's fifth-place touch in the 400 Medley Relay – joined by Justin Marler and George Dowdy for a time of 3:26.83.

Meanwhile, the women's squad opened the finals with three finishes in the top-six of the 400 IM, led by Ashley Shanel's third-place B-cut time of 4:31.28. Both Ali Neumann (4:33.79; 4th) and Mackenzie Neeley (4:41.16; 6th) combined to add points to Truman's team score.

The team's highlight of the night came in the 100 Fly, as redshirt freshman Evyn Spencer edged out Drury's Wai Ting Yu with a season-low B-cut time of 55.45 to earn the victory. Beth Eyanson finished fourth in the event with a mark of 58.04 after setting a B-cut time of her own earlier in the preliminary session at 56.92.

While Casey Jepsen's second-place finish of 1:51.22 in the 200 Free was the squad's top time, Bailey Peterson earned a new B-cut time by finishing first in the B-final at 1:53.73.

The Bulldogs continued their long-standing dominance in the women's 100 Breast event, as Abby Hempen  (1:04.25; B-cut), Margaux Kent (1:04.85; B-cut), and Neumann (1:05.55) took home fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Neumann swam her fastest time in the event –a B-cut – earlier in the prelim session, touching at 1:05.15.

Hannah Nicks added a third-place time in the 100 Back at 57.49 after setting a B-cut mark of 57.29 earlier in the day, with Eyanson earning a sixth-place finish with a time of 58.37.

In the final event of the night, the Bulldog quartet of Nicks, Hempen, Spencer and Jepsen came in second in the 400 Medley Relay, notching one last B-cut time on the night at 3:50.36 and 34 team points.

Drury continues to lead both the women's and men's events, with the Bulldog women holding an 86-point lead on Indianapolis heading into tomorrow' final day of competition. Preliminary competition begins at 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday.
