CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - - A school record in the men's 200 Breaststroke and three big finishes in the women's 200 Backstroke, the women's 100 Freestyle, and the women's 200 Breaststroke punctuated the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference championship meet for the Truman swimming teams on Saturday night.

The Bulldog women's team wrapped up its 25th straight season of a first or second place finish at a conference meet, taking second in the inaugural GLVC championships, while the Bulldog men's team took home a solid sixth-place finish in the event. Drury earned both the women's and men's 2014 titles.

The day opened with a new school record by Neil Girmus, whose prelim time of 2:05.49 in the 200 Breaststroke shattered the old record by .50 seconds. As one of five Bulldogs to compete in the finals later in the evening, Girmus won the B-final with a time of 2:05.74.

On the women's side, Casey Jepsen earned two more B-cuts on the day, picking up a 5:03.38 finish in the 500 Freestyle time trial before capping her night with a third-place time of 52.07 in the 100 Freestyle. She edged teammate Evyn Spencer by .03 in that race, with Spencer also notching a B-cut at 52.10.

Abby Hempen, Margaux Kent and Ally Neumann secured updated B-cut times in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. All three made their improvements in the finals after failing to match their seed times in the preliminary competition earlier in the day.

Hannah Nicks, Taylor Voelker, and Kristi Van Oost opened the night with key performances in the 200 Backstroke, as the trio took home third, fifth and sixth places for 43 total points towards the Bulldogs' team score.

Beth Eyanson added a third-place finish in the 200 Butterfly, while both Brynn Guardado and Meghan Senne landed top-six finishes in the 1,650 Freestyle. Alec Morgan (4th) and Etienne Thro (7th) earned a combined 27 points for their finishes in the 200 Butterfly.

With the regular season now complete, the Bulldog women will await word on possible selections to the 2014 NCAA Div. II Championships – held March 12-15 in Geneva, Ohio. Truman has 11 different individuals who have secured a combined 24 B-cut times this season, as well as five relay squads that have also picked up B-cut times.  Selections will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
