Sluggish Night In The Gateway City For Bulldog Men

BOX SCORE

ST. LOUIS – Femi John scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the first half and the Truman Bulldogs could not recover from a 16-point halftime deficit as they fell to Missouri-St. Louis 80-65 on Saturday night on the road.

John was 7-of-9 from the field in the first 20 minutes including a pair of three-pointers as UMSL built up a 47-31 halftime advantage. Six of Truman's seven field goals in the first period were all from beyond the arc.

Truman came out in the second half and cut the lead in half to eight, then had three straight possessions that resulted in turnovers and four trips total to get within six but were denied. From there, the Tritons used 16 offensive rebounds, just six turnovers and 18 more shot attempts to pull away.

Truman's lone highlight came with St. Louis native, Seth Jackson became the 27th Bulldog player to score over 1,000 points in just three years. Jackson finished with 20 points with half coming from the foul line.  Reed Mells finished with 19 while Mike Carlson, who scored 34 in the previous meeting with the Tritons, was limited to 14 on the night going 3-of-12 from the field.

John finished with 22 and Tylor Wimbish added 18 while the Tritons had 17 of their 39 rebounds coming on the offensive end.  Darian Cartharn connected from behind the arc five times and finished with 15 points.

The Bulldogs will look to regroup on Thursday night and host rival Quincy (Ill.) on Thursday night in Pershing Arena. Truman falls into a three-way tie for fifth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with Southern Indiana and Bellarmine (Ky.).
