JACKSON, Tenn. - - An all-around dominating weekend both in the circle and at the plate propelled the Truman softball team to a 4-0 record at the Union (Tenn.) University Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

The Bulldogs (6-3) surrendered just one run in 24 innings of pitching, while the offense supplied 28 runs behind five doubles, four home runs, and a triple. Five players hit better than .300 at the plate, led by senior Danielle Lewellen's seven hits in 13 at-bats for a .538 average.

Truman's two pitchers tossed gems throughout the two-day event, with sophomore Kindra Henze posting two complete game shutouts and 16 strikeouts alongside fellow sophomore Kelsea Dorsey's pair of complete games and 16 strikeouts in just ten innings. The tandem put up a 0.29 ERA with just 16 baserunners allowed and 32 strikeouts.

The Bulldogs return to action next week with a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Thursday, Feb. 27. First pitch against the former MIAA rival is set for 1 p.m. in Bolivar.

Game 1 Recap – Truman 10, Walsh (Ohio) 1 (5 innings)
Cate Simon, Liz Leath, and Whitney Richardson all went yard, four Bulldogs swiped bases, and Kelsea Dorsey needed only 34 pitches to dispatch regional-rival Walsh 10-1 in five innings during the weekend opener.

After Walsh went ahead 1-0 through its half of the first, the Bulldogs wasted no time drawing even on Simon's third blast of the year. Kelsey Bollman added a sacrifice fly to open the scoring in the third, before Leath bombed a three-run shot on a full count to push the lead to 5-1. A Bollman RBI single again got scoring going in the fourth in front of a Richardson three-run blast. Jessica VanNostrand capped the scoring with an RBI single to left for a 10-1 Truman advantage.

Dorsey, meanwhile, kept the Cavaliers at bay, getting through the WC lineup in five innings with just 34 pitches – striking out three and giving up just one earned run.

Game 2 Recap – Truman 3, Union (Tenn.) 0
Kindra Henze struck out eight and allowed just four baserunners in a complete game shutout of the host Lady Bulldogs, and Ally McReynolds and Kelsey Bollman each totaled an RBI out of the top two spots in the lineup.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the third on a UU miscue, before McReynolds and Bollman knocked back-to-back RBI doubles in the 5th for Truman's 3-0 lead. Henze, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 on 85 pitches against the Lady Bulldogs.

Game 3 Recap – Truman 2, Walsh (Ohio) 0
The Bulldogs faced Walsh for the second time at the event and picked up a 2-0 victory against the Cavaliers. Andrea Klipsch and Liz Leath had two hits apiece, while Henze went the distance again for the second straight game.

Klipsch drove home Ally McReynolds with an RBI single in the top of the second, before Bollman recorded an RBI groundout in the fifth that sent home Klipsch for all of the Truman offense.

Only two baserunners reached for Walsh against Henze, who struck out eight in her complete game shutout.

Game 4 Recap – Truman 13, Hiwassee (Tenn.) 0 (5 innings)
In the final game of the UU Invitational, the Bulldogs pulled out all of the stops – stealing home twice, pounding out 13 hits, and recording its third straight shutout – to blank Hiwassee, 13-0.

Truman scored in all five innings, putting up three in the first, one in each the second and third, five in the fourth, and three more in the fifth. The first one was the only one Kelsea Dorsey needed, as the redshirt sophomore didn't allow a baserunner until the fourth inning – striking out a career-high 13 in facing just 16 batters.

Danielle Lewellen, Kelsey Bollman, Cate Simon, Liz Leath, and Corey Niblett each finished with multiple hits, with Niblett taking top RBI honors with three.
