Softball Runs Win Streak to Ten with Wednesday Sweep

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - - The Truman softball offense kept its red-hot March streak going on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bulldogs pounded out 22 runs and 33 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln (Mo.). Truman beat its former MIAA rival by scores of 13-0 (5 innings) and 9-0.

Truman (12-3) won its 9^th and 10^th games in a row, marking the longest program win streak since an 11-game unblemished stretch from March 26 – April 7, 2006. During this run, the Bulldogs have touched home 79 times offensively while surrendering just three runs (two earned) defensively – raising the team's batting average to .336 while dropping the squad's ERA to 0.83.

The Bulldogs will play their first home GLVC games this Friday and Saturday, hosting UW-Parkside and Lewis at 12 p.m. both days at the Truman Softball Park.

Game 1 Recap – Truman 13, Lincoln 0 (5 innings)
In game one, a slow start spun quickly in the fourth and fifth innings, as the Bulldogs turned a 2-0 lead into a 13-0 romp of the Blue Tigers in a run-rule abbreviated opener of Wednesday's twinbill. Truman scored seven in the fourth and four in the fifth to close the game early.

Truman pounded out six extra-base hits, including the first collegiate round-tripper for freshman Alexis Van Nostrand. Van Nostrand was joined by teammates Kelsey Bollman and Whitney Richardson with three hits each, while both of Liz Leath's hits were doubles. Meanwhile, Kindra Henze pushed her scoreless streak to 29 innings with a five inning shutout in the circle. Now 6-1 on the year, Henze surrendered just two hits while striking out eight of the 17 batters she faced.

Game 2 Recap – Truman 9, Lincoln 0
Three runs in the first set the tone early, as the Bulldogs knocked out 16 more hits in a 9-0 blanking of LU in the finale. Truman scored in five of the seven innings and got base hits from nine different people, while Kelsea Dorsey tossed a shutout to move to 6-2 on the season.

Danielle Lewellen and Cate Simon recorded three hits apiece, while Leath, Andrea Klipsch, and Caroline Gatti tallied two hits each. Ally McReynolds' two RBI led the Bulldog offense, as both she and Kelsey Bollman went yard. Dorsey, meanwhile, gave up only three hits while striking out seven in seven innings.
