Bulldogs Finish 2014 Swimming & Diving Championships

NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championship Results
 
GENEVA, Ohio - - The 2013-14 season came to a close for the Truman women's swimming team after Day Four of the NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships, as the Bulldogs finished 19th in the 400 Free Relay while also having two individuals compete in the 100 Free.
 
The quartet of Evyn Spencer, Casey Jepsen, Kristi Van Oost, and Brynn Guardado just missed the opportunity to compete in the 400 FR finals, swimming a time of 3:31.69 in the prelims early in the day.
 
Jepsen closed her individual career with a time of 52.53 (42nd) in the 100 Free, while Spencer touched just behind her at 52.67 (46th).
 
For the competition, the Bulldogs logged 28 team points to finish 26th place overall. Jepsen's three all-American honors for the week helped her finish with nine overall in four seasons.
 
The Bulldog teams will begin the 2014-15 season in early October of the next academic year.
 
Friday (Day 3) Recap
All four Truman women's swimmers earned all-American honors on night three of the 2014 NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships, as the Bulldog 800 Free Relay team took home 11th place with a time of 7:35.65 to earn 12 team points.
 
The Bulldog quartet of Casey Jepsen, Evyn Spencer, Kristi Van Oost, and Brynn Guardado all picked up all-American status with the finish, while Jepsen also earned her ninth career all-American honor by taking home 11th place in the 500 Free with a career-best time of 4:57.84. With those two finishes, the Bulldogs moved into the top-25 of the overall scoring with 28 team points at the Championships.
 
Brynn Guardado also competed in the 500 Free, finishing 32nd with a mark of 5:09.06.
 
The Bulldogs will have three final events of competition on Saturday's day four, with Guardado swimming in the 1650 Free (seeded 24th), Jepsen (seeded 38th) and Spencer (seeded 39th) swimming the 100 Free, and all four teaming up for the 400 Free Relay (seeded 17th). Prelim competition begins at 9:30 a.m. (CT), with the finals set for a 5 p.m. (CT) start.
 
Thursday (Day 2) Recap
The Truman women's swimming team captured two all-American honors on night two of the 2014 NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships, as both senior Casey Jepsen and freshman Evyn Spencer grabbed top-16 finishes in individual events.

Jepsen became a seven-time NCAA all-American by posting a 10th-place finish in the 200 Free, marking a season-best time of 1:50.46 to earn seven points. Spencer, meanwhile, picked up her first collegiate all-American accolades by touching 14th in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.14. The redshirt freshman earned three points to give Truman 10 team points through two days of competition.

The Bulldog quartet representing the team at the national event also competed in two relay events on the day but suffered a disqualification in the 200 Free Relay prelims before finishing 18th in the 400 Medley Relay prelims.

On Friday, the Bulldogs will have individual representatives in the 500 Free, as both Brynn Guardado (5:00.76; seeded 23rd) and Jepsen (5:03.38; seeded 36th) will compete. In addition, Guardado and Jepsen will be joined by Spencer and Kristi Van Oost in the 800 Free Relay, in which the Bulldogs bring in the 10th-fastest time in Div. II this season (7:30.36). Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. (CDT), while finals are set for a 5 p.m. (CDT) start.


Wednesday (Day 1) Recap
Brynn Guardado took 22nd in the 1000 Free and the Evyn Spencer took home 23rd in the 200 IM on day one of the 2014 NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships.
 
During the morning prelim session, Spencer clocked a time of 2:06.73 in the 200 IM event. Then, about an hour later, Guardado lowered her season-best time by nearly 1.5 seconds in the 1000 Free to 10:28.05 for a 22nd-place finish.
 
The Bulldogs will take to the pool in four events tomorrow (Thursday) morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (CDT). Spencer will compete in the 100 Fly, where she is seeded 10th, while Casey Jepsen will take the pool for her first event in the 200 Free seeded 14th.
 
Two of Truman's relay units will also compete, with Guardado, Spencer, Jepsen, and Kristi Van Oost teaming up for the 200 Free (seeded 13th), and the 400 Medley (seeded 21st).
