KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Truman softball reached base at a .513 clip in a double-dip sweep of Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon, with the No. 21 Bulldogs picking up wins by scores of 12-6 and 8-2.

The Bulldogs (31-6, 21-3 GLVC) hit .390 as a team and drew 14 walks during 12 innings of plate appearances to trounce the Screaming Eagles (19-14, 11-13 GLVC) at home under clear, sunny skies. Danielle Lewellen, Andrea Klipsch, and Liz Leath each recorded five hits on the afternoon, with Klipsch and Whitney Richardson each recording two doubles. Leath added a home run as one of Truman's seven extra-base hits on the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Truman's pitching surrendered only three earned runs while striking out a dozen against the GLVC East division's third-place unit.

The purple and white close out a key home weekend against East division opponents at noon on Saturday, when Bellarmine (Ky.) visits Kirksville. The Knights received votes in last week's NFCA top-25 coaches' poll and are now 29-9 overall (22-4 GLVC) after a pair of wins (5-1, 5-2) at Quincy on Friday.

Game 1 Recap - #21 Truman 12, Southern Indiana 6
Nine unanswered runs turned a 5-3 Bulldog deficit into a 12-5 lead in just a two-inning span in game one, as Truman rallied to knock off USI in the opener, 12-6. Liz Leath went 4-for-4 with four RBI in the victory.

The Bulldogs scored once in the second and twice in the third to take a 3-0 lead before USI responded with five unearned runs in the top of the fifth off Truman starter Kindra Henze. However, the Bulldogs fought back in the home half, plating five runs of their own – capped by an Andrea Klipsch bases-clearing double – before tacking on four more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth behind Leath's fifth home run of the season and a Kelsey Bollman RBI infield single.

Leath (4), Lewellen (2), Klipsch (2), and Bollman (2) accounted for 10 of the team's 11 hits in the game, along with eight combined RBI and four runs. Both Alexis VanNostrand and Jessica VanNostrand drew a pair of walks and came around to score twice, while all three of Truman's pinch-runners in the contest – Nikki Moss, Kelsey Jacques, and Corey Niblett – also eventually touched home.

Kindra Henze improved to 17-2 on the year with her complete game outing. She allowed seven hits and six runs (one earned), while striking out seven and walking three. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs saddled USI's Brooke Harmening with 10 earned runs (she had allowed just 26 all season entering the games) in 5.1 innings of work to fall to 12-6 overall.

Game 2 Recap - #21 Truman 8, Southern Indiana 2
Another big inning – this time a six-run fourth – propelled the Bulldogs to an afternoon sweep of the Screaming Eagles. Danielle Lewellen and Andrea Klipsch each tallied three hits from the Nos. 1 and 2 slots in the lineup.

A Whitney Richardson RBI double that plated Jessica VanNostrand in the second gave Truman a 1-0 lead, before the 'Dogs posted a six-spot in the fourth. Klipsch executed a perfect squeeze play that scored Ally McReynolds to make it 2-0 in front of Lewellen trotting home after an airmailed throw into left field by the USI catcher pushed the lead to 3-0. Cate Simon then singled home Klipsch for a 4-0 cushion before a dropped fly ball off the bat of J. VanNostrand allowed both Simon and Alexis VanNostrand to score made it 6-0. A Leath RBI double punctuated the inning, scoring J VanNostrand.

USI would score two in the sixth off Grace Clark's second home run of the day, but another Richardson double to score J. VanNostrand gave Truman the 8-2 win.

Lewellen (3), Klipsch (3), and Richardson (2) each recorded multiple hits, while Lewellen tacked on two stolen bases to improve her GLVC-best to 31 on the season. Both VanNostrands scored twice apiece again to help give Kelsea Dorsey more than enough cushion in her 14th win of the year. She allowed only four hits in seven innings of work while striking out five and walking three.
