LIBERTY, Mo. – The 21st-ranked Truman softball team settled for a split at William Jewell College on Sunday afternoon, winning the opener 8-1 before having its 11-game winning streak snapped in game two with a 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
 
The No. 21 Bulldogs (29-6, 19-3 GLVC) will be off until Saturday, April 12, when the purple and white welcome Southern Indiana to the Bulldog Softball Park for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
 
Game 1 Recap - #21 Truman 8, William Jewell 1
The sibling tandem of Jessica VanNostrand and Alexis VanNostrand combined for seven RBI, with the Bulldogs scoring in all but the first inning on the way to an 8-1 victory against William Jewell.
 
The VanNostrands posted a combined 4-for-6 hitting effort with three home runs (two by Alexis), five runs scored and seven RBI. Jessica pounded a three-run bomb in the top of the third, while Alexis knocked solo shots in both the fourth and seventh innings. Danielle Lewellen added three hits and three stolen bases, while Kelsey Bollman added a double.
 
Kindra Henze improved to 16-2 on the season with her complete game outing, as the sophomore struck out seven and didn't allow a run until the seventh inning.
 
Game 2 Recap – William Jewell 5, #21 Truman 3
Despite the Bulldogs out-hitting the host Cardinals by an 11-7 margin, William Jewell got a two-HR game out of Faith Song to earn a split.
 
WJC went up 3-0 in the first on a three-run shot by Song, but Truman recovered with two in the top half of the second when Ally McReynolds singled home both VanNostrands to cut the Cardinal lead to 3-2. Song and teammate Kelsey Tenecyke would each homer in the home half of the fifth, but an Andrea Klipsch solo shot in the seventh wouldn't be enough for the visiting Bulldogs. Both Klipsch and Lewellen added a double for Truman.
 
Kelsea Dorsey gave up four earned runs in six innings of work, taking only her fourth loss of the season (13-4). She struck out five and walked three on the day.
