ROLLA, Mo. – Running back Garrett White became the 13th Bulldog to go over 2,000 career rushing yards with 154 in the Bulldogs 27-16 victory over Missouri S&T in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Saturday night.

White scored a pair of touchdowns on 24 carries while the offense ran for 311 yards out of the 400 yards of total offense.

His first score came just 19 seconds into the contest after Missouri S&T fumbled their first play from scrimmage. White went up the middle from 20 yards away and a 7-0 Truman lead.

The Bulldog defense held the Miners in check with 237 yards of total offense, just 27 yards coming on the ground.

S&T tied the game at seven on an 11-yard touchdown pass that was set up on a fumble by the Bulldogs deep in their own territory.

Truman regained the lead on their next possession with the help of some big plays. The Miners appeared to send the Bulldogs out on three plays but a running into the kicker penalty gave the 'Dogs new life. The Bulldogs moved the ball to the Miner 23 and facing a fourth and 10, Devonte Black struck Kurt Loyd for a touchdown pass and a 14-7 lead.

Late in the second, Black and the Bulldogs engineered an 11-play 86-yard drive capped off by Black's seven-yard pass to Joey Schenck in the middle of the endzone. The point after was botched and the Miners' picked up a rare defensive two-point score to make it 20-9 at the half.

Truman struck first in the second half after a crucial fourth down pick up.  Vince Garcia appeared to be stopped short on fourth and one but slipped through a tackle and scampered 18-yards down to the Miners' 16. White again took one play to go up the gut and give Truman a 27-9 lead.

Garcia had his breakout night finishing near the century mark in rushing yards with 15 carries for 99 yards.

Missouri S&T converted on their first fourth down in four tries when Peter Simpson connected with Spencer Elrod from 17-yards out to cut the Bulldog lead to 27-16 with 3:38 left to play. It capped off a six-play 51-yard drive.

Truman recovered the onsides kick and was able to run out most of the clock for the victory.

Chris Stanton and Jordan Brown each had interceptions for the Truman defense that held the Miners to nine first downs and 2-of-13 on third downs.

The Bulldogs will host Lincoln (Mo.) University next Saturday night at Stokes Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
