Volleyball Recap: Truman 3, Quincy 0

KIRKSVILLE - - Kayla Bastian and Allie Brak combined for 23 kills and just one attack error on the outside, and the Truman volleyball team hit .302 as a whole in a 3-0 (-20, -15, -14) sweep of Quincy (Ill.) on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (11-2, 7-0 GLVC) won their ninth straight to maintain a one-game lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division, as Truman overcame a sluggish start in the first set to eventually put the Hawks (2-12, 0-7 GLVC) away.

Brak put Truman on her back in the first set, hitting .455 with seven kills, as the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 25-20 set win. Then, in the second, all the Bulldogs fired at will – putting down 16 kills to just one error in the set for a .500 hitting line and a 25-15 set victory.

Truman never let the third set be in question, as the Bulldogs built a 9-2 lead and never looked back, as the Bulldog bench carried the squad to a 25-14 third set decision.

For the night, Bastian led all players with 12 kills and hit .579, while Brak finished with 11 kills of her own. Ali Patterson put down six kills and tacked on four blocks, with Abby Heise (5) and Emilee Walters (4) each hitting better than .250 as well. Meghan Zimmerman guided the Bulldog offense with 36 assists, while Sidney King took home top Truman dig honors with 13.

Truman libero Abby Moser became just the second Bulldog in program history to eclipse the 2,000-dig plateau, as her first dig in the opening set reached the milestone en route to finishing with 10 on the night.

Samantha Haegele led QU with seven kills, while libero Sommer Holder finished with a match-high 17 digs.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday night when they host William Jewell at 7 p.m. in Pershing Arena.
