SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - - The Truman men's basketball team came away with a 59-58 road victory at the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon, withstanding a last-second buzzer-beating attempt to pick up its 11th victory of the season.

Truman (11-4, 3-2 GLVC) capitalized on a strong defensive effort in the final minutes, as the Bulldogs limited the Prairie Stars (6-6, 0-4 GLVC) to just eight points from the floor in the final 10 minutes of action. That defensive stand turned a 50-43 deficit with 10:09 to play into the eventual 59-58 final.

Trailing 52-51 after a Seth Jackson lay-up with 8:26 to play, the Bulldogs took the lead at the 7:30 mark on another Jackson conversion.

A Cory Myers old-fashioned three-point play – which extended his current free throws made streak to 40 – pushed Truman's lead to 56-52, but UIS scored six of the next seven to take a 58-57 lead with 2:06 to play.

Jackson drew a foul and hit two free throws – the final points of the game – with 1:54 to go, before the squads traded out back-to-back empty possessions. A Bulldog turnover game UIS the ball back with 11 seconds to play, but, after not coming up with a shot, the Prairie Stars eventually held an in-bound with 2.8 seconds on the clock. However, UIS' buzzer-beating look glanced off the side iron from the top of the key as the clock hit zero, and the Bulldogs escaped with the one-point win.

The Bulldogs shot 38.3% from the floor for the game and hit just 6-of-21 three-point attempts, but the purple and white did convert on 70.0% (7-of-10) of its free throw tries. Jackson led all players with a 20-point, eight-rebound outing, while redshirt sophomore Cory Myers added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and a free throw. All eight Bulldogs who saw the floor scored, as the Bulldogs also out-rebounded UIS 42-35.

Neither team held a double-digit lead at any point, with Truman's largest margin coming at 34-26 early in the second half.

Jamall Millison led UIS with 17 points.

The Bulldogs – now just a half-game back in the GLVC West division – head to division-leading Missouri-St. Louis (11-3, 3-1 GLVC) on Thursday (Jan. 15) night at 7:30 p.m. to cap the team's current three-game road trip.
