Men's Basketball Recap: Mo.-St. Louis 85, Truman 77

ST. LOUIS - - Despite a late push to keep the game in doubt until the final buzzer, the Truman men's basketball team struggled on the offensive end for the majority of the game in an 85-77 loss at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night. Seth Jackson led all Bulldogs with 22 points, while Cory Myers added a career-high 20 points.

The Bulldogs (11-5, 3-3 GLVC) dropped their first Great Lakes Valley Conference West division game of the year with the loss, as UMSL (12-3, 4-1 GLVC) used an early 21-7 lead to keep Truman at arms-distance throughout much of the contest. Truman shot just 36.4% for the game, including just 5-of-26 in the first half.

Truman battled back to trail by just seven, 34-27, at the break, fueled by a 15-for-18 mark at the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs would creep to within five early in the second half, but UMSL rebounded to a double-figure lead with 12 minutes to play. The purple and white would extend the game by finally beginning to convert on the offensive end – hitting 11 of its final 16 shots in the last five minutes – but the early damage allowed the Tritons to hold on for the eight point victory, as Truman never closed to within more than six in the final minute.

Jackson's 22 points came on 7-of-14 shooting (1-for-2 3FG) and a 7-for-12 effort from the foul line, while Myers logged his career-best on 6-of-11 shooting overall (2-of-3 3FG). He also extended his program record free throw streak to 46 consecutive makes, hitting all six of his tries from the line on Thursday night.

Reed Mells added 18 points and both a team-high five assists and three steals, with Cole Myers chipping in eight points and four rebounds off the bench. Connor Erickson led all 'Dogs with six rebounds, including three on the offensive end.

Tylor Wimbish (24 points, 10 rebounds) and Aareon Smith (23 points, 13 rebounds) led UMSL, as the Tritons converted on 28-of-34 free throws on the night – including 24-of-29 in the second half.

The Bulldogs closed their three-game road trip with a 2-1 mark and are set to return home for a 3 p.m. showdown with Maryville (Mo.) on Saturday in Pershing Arena. The Saints (9-5, 4-1 GLVC) came from behind with a tip-in at the buzzer to defeat Quincy 77-76 on Thursday night.
