KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Senior Seth Jackson led all players with 26 points, while backcourt mate Reed Mells added 20 points of his own, but a pair of deadly Wisconsin-Parkside runs staved off a Truman men's basketball rally on Friday night, as the visiting Rangers defeated Truman 77-69 in Pershing Arena.

Two well-timed runs by UWP (9-1, 1-0 GLVC) made the difference in a tight affair throughout, as the Rangers scored 10 straight – including a buzzer-beating triple – to take a 41-31 lead into halftime. Then, after Truman (9-3, 1-1 GLVC) had pulled to within one after an 8-1 burst of its own at 56-55 with 7:38 to play, the Rangers scored eight straight to push their margin back to nine with just 5:18 left on the clock. Truman would pull to within five multiple times down the stretch but could never get the game within one possession, as UWP held on and escaped with the eight-point victory.

Jackson's game-high 26 points came on 9-of-24 shooting, as the senior added a 6-of-10 mark from the foul line alongside two three-pointers. He also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in 37 minutes. Meanwhile, Mells made his mark in the box score across multiple avenues for the second straight game, as the Iowa-native scored 20 points and added four rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists.

Only three other Bulldogs scored – all starters – as Andrew Vander Zwaag hit three triples on his way to nine points, while Billy Daniel added eight points and two blocks, with Cory Myers scoring six points to go alongside a career-best five steals and three assists. The Bulldog bench was blanked on the night, as UWP's second string out-scored Truman's by a 23-0 margin.

Despite the Bulldogs being out-rebounded by 15 (40-25), UWP only out-did Truman by seven in the second-chance column at 11-4, with Truman making Parkside pay for its turnovers by scoring 19 points off 19 Ranger errors.

For the game, Truman shot 45.2% from the floor but went just 5-for-20 (25%) from three-point range. Truman hit 8-of-12 free throws, marking only the second time this season the Bulldogs got to the line less than their opponent (both losses).

Zygimantas Riauka led the Rangers with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double, as five Parkside players finished in double-figures. Mohamed Mohamed added 16 points off the bench.

Truman's eight-game winning streak was also snapped with the loss, as the Bulldogs had to look back to a Nov. 23 road overtime loss at Northern (S.D.) State for their last setback. The Bulldogs will look to right the ship on Sunday afternoon at 3p.m. when 23rd-ranked Lewis (Ill.) visits Kirksville. The Flyers improved to 9-1 on the season (1-0 GLVC) with a79-59 win at Quincy on Friday night.
