No. 22 Women's Soccer Silences Screaming Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - The Truman offense provided the spark, while the defense logged shutout number four in a row, as the Bulldog women's soccer team moved into a tie for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 3-0 blanking of Southern Indiana on Friday night.

The 22nd-ranked Bulldogs, whose 12th straight unbeaten match moved them into a percentage tie with 13th-ranked Bellarmine atop the GLVC ledger, got first half goals from Allison Lockett and Jessica Hanson and a second half tally by Alexis Heffernan to improve to 9-1-4 overall (8-0-3 GLVC) on the season. Lockett's goal in the fifth minute was assisted by Megan Whitehead, while both Hanson's 36th minute goal and Heffernan's 69th minute score were unassisted.

Truman out-shot USI 15-7 overall and 8-5 on net, as keeper Katie Mattingly notched her seventh shutout of the year.

The Bulldogs head into a Sunday morning (11 a.m. CT) showdown against No. 13 BU (12-1-1, 9-1-1 GLVC) with each team holding a .864 winning percentage in league play. Both squads are a half-game ahead of third-place Missouri-St. Louis (10-1-2, 8-1-2 GLVC) but are two full games clear of fourth-place Quincy (9-2-3, 6-2-3 GLVC) with four regular season matches to play. QU handed BU its first loss of 2015 on Friday afternoon by a 3-0 score in Louisville.
