Truman Football Travels To William Jewell On Saturday

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Football team returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action riding a two-game winning streak when they face another hot team in William Jewell on Saturday. The Cardinals have won their last three games, two coming late in the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals stunned the Bulldogs last year at Homecoming with 21 second half points after Truman went into the locker room up 17-0. Truman led in nearly every statistical category that day but a 65-yard pass following a scramble by quarterback Nick West sparked the Cardinals onto victory. West capped off the rally with a 10-yard TD run in the fourth quarter while receiver Anthony Mullins caught six passes for 135 yards.

Truman is riding high after coming back from 20 against the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) last Saturday to win 24-20. True freshman running back Andy Satulla earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors after running for 172 yards on 31 carries and the Bulldog rushing attack finished with 226 yards against a USF defense that was leading the NAIA at 77 yards rushing allowed per game.

The "Cardiac" Cards have won three straight and last two in dramatic fashion.  After starting the season 0-4, WJC downed Missouri S&T 40-16 at home then went on the road to win in the fourth quarter over Quincy (24-21) and Southwest Baptist (35-34). Kicker Brandon Womack hit a 28-yard field goal on the game's final play to defeat the Hawks and then nailed a GLVC record 52-yard FG to complete the victory over the Bearcats. Womack was named the GLVC Special
Teams Player of the week.

This is the 16th meeting between the Cardinals and Bulldogs with William Jewell leading the series 7-6-2. The majority of games played by these two teams were from 1903-1917 with Jewell winning six of their seven during that time span.

Road Warriors:
Seven of the first nine games will be played away from Kirksville and the Truman campus. It ties the 2005 season with the most road games on a single season schedule.

Out of 172 NCAA Division II programs, Truman is one of three schools with seven true road games. The Bulldogs join Minnesota State Moorehead and Chowan (N.C.) with seven road games. Lane (Tenn.) and Central State (Ohio) also has seven games away from campus but each has one with a neutral site designation.

Truman will travel nearly 5,000 miles roundtrip this season but will also play three of the four closest NCAA Division II schools on the road. Those three are Quincy, Lincoln and William Jewell that will account for a total of 483 of those roundtrip miles.

Bulldogs Return To TV
The October 31st conference game with rival Quincy has been selected by the NCAA Division II as part of their weekly national television package to be broadcasted on the American Sports Network. The ASN is comprised of 162 Sinclair Broadcast Group stations. The company, which launched last season, produced 250 college events in nine sports with plans to air more than 375 events this year. The game will be seen locally on KTVO CBS 3.2 and on KHQA CBS Channel 7 and nationwide on NCAA.com.

All Truman home games will be available on the GLVC Sports Network. The free webcasts which can be found on TrumanBulldogs.com/watch, will feature a simulcast of the radio broadcast provided by 104.7 FM KRES. The "Voice of the Bulldogs" Brad Boyer and "Mr. Bulldog" Hank Janssen return for their 21st season in brining Bulldog action to fans. In addition, all games will have a free audio webcast at CentralMoInfo.com/KRES.

Kings of Missouri
With a .580 all-time winning percentage, Truman is the "Top Dog" of all NCAA Football playing schools in the state of Missouri. The Bulldogs are second in terms of overall wins with 554 and trail the flagship institution of the state, the University of Missouri in that regard. Northwest Missouri (.578), Missouri Western (.550), Mizzou (.547) and Westminster College (.529) round out the top five of the 15 public and private schools in the state that play football under the NCAA banner.

Up Next:
Truman's final road game of the season will also be its closest. The Bulldogs and Quincy Hawks will square off in front of a national television audience at 11 a.m. next Saturday for the newly refurbished QU Stadium.

The game will be televised on the American Sports Network and locally on KTVO in Kirksville.

The Bulldogs clipped the Hawks 17-14 in Kirksville last year after winning 33-0 the year before. Quincy steps outside of conference play this week as they host Ohio Dominican.
