LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The Truman men's basketball team tried to chase down the No. 5 Knights of Bellarmine University on Thursday night, but a late push in the second half helped BU protect its home court with an 89-73 victory at Knights Hall.

Truman took a 21-18 lead with 10:36 to play in the opening half on a Cole Myers three-pointer, but an extended scoring drought by the Bulldogs allowed BU to score 15 of the game's next 17 points and build a 33-23 lead with 2:47 to play. Truman would get it to within seven at the break, trailing 39-32 at the intermission.

The Bulldogs' best shot in the second half came with 13:29 to go, as Seth Jackson split a pair of free throws to draw Truman to within one at 49-48. However, another long Bellarmine run – this time encompassing nearly seven minutes – allowed the home team to push the margin to 15 at 71-56 with 6:46 left on the clock.

Truman would get the game to within single digits two more times, before the Knights reached the final score of 89-73.

Jackson, the GLVC's leading scorer overcame first half foul trouble to end up as the game's top points man with 25, as he scored 20 in the second half alone including a thunderous dunk over BU's Jake Thelen. Beyond that, however, only Andrew Vander Zwaag reached double-figures, as the junior came off the bench to score 12 points and swipe a game-high four steals. Cole Myers and Reed Mells each added eight points for a Bulldog offense that shot just 36.4% from the floor overall. Truman went 11-for-34 from three-point range and 14-of-16 from the free throw line.

BU countered at 51% and out-rebounded Truman by a 46-28 margin. Rusty Troutman scored a career-high 24 points for the Knights, while Thelen finished with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double.

The Bulldogs next travel to Southern Indiana to face the Screaming Eagles on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. USI improved to 14-6 overall (7-5 GLVC East) after a 68-62 home win against Quincy on Thursday night.
