EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - Senior Seth Jackson became just the fourth player in Truman men's basketball history to surpass 1,500 points for his career, but an 8-0 run with eight minutes to play gave Southern Indiana a held it would never give up, as the Screaming Eagles dealt the Bulldogs an 81-70 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs took a 56-53 lead on an Andrew Vander Zwaag three-pointer with 10:52 to play, but, as USI had done for much of a game, the home team recovered with a punch back of its own – rattling off an 8-0 burst to take a 61-56 lead with 7:59 to play in the ball game. From there, Truman countered as often as it could, but USI kept coming through with buckets to keep the Bulldogs at arms-length, holding on and pushing the lead in the final seconds to double-figures for the only time in the game.

The Bulldogs threw their biggest haymakers at the beginning of each half, starting the game with a 9-0 run in the first four-plus minutes before scoring 10 points in the first 1:23 of the second half.

Jackson's game-high 34 points came on 11-of-15 shooting from the field (1-for-3 three-point attempts) and a perfect 11-for-11 line from the charity stripe. From there, senior Reed Mells added 14 points and three assists, and Vander Zwaag chipped in nine points on three triples off the bench. The Bulldogs shot 46% from the floor for the game but went just 8-of-25 (32%) from long distance. Truman did convert on 16-of-17 free throw opportunities but saw itself get out-rebounded 37-21 by the Screaming Eagles.

USI was led by 23 points from Bobo Drummond, while post-man George Edwards came off the bench for 18 points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs – now two games back in the GLVC West division and tied at 8-5 in league play with Missouri-St. Louis – come home from this four-game road trip to host Saint Joseph's (Ind.) in Pershing Arena on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
