KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Truman Bulldogs tied a couple of records on Monday as they took three out of four games against Missouri S&T. Truman won game one behind Cody Gardner's complete-game shutout 6-0 but fell in the nightcap 6-2.

Gardner matched Matt Leara's 1991-1994 career pitching wins total as he picked up his 13th of his career and seven of the season in the opener. The Bulldogs also tied last season's school record of 26 wins with the victory.

T.J. Wood went four for five on the blustery day with three runs scored and a triple. Paul Trenhaile added three more hits to his Bulldog career leading total and drove in one during the doubleheader.

The Bulldogs hit .297 as a team during the four-game set with Trenhaile batting .538 with four runs scored and a double. Dave Gambino, the hero of game two of the series, finished with a .313 mark and drove in five runs.

Missouri S&T hit .293 with Lance Portwood, Lucas Swindle and Collen Zurweller each hitting over .400.

Truman will face another pivotal GLVC West Division series over the weekend as they head to Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday.

Game 1 Recap: Cody Gardner limited the Miners to five hits while the middle of the Truman order had seven of the eight hits in the 6-0 opener.

The Bulldogs jumped on top in the first with Jarod Hahn doubling with one out. Paul Trenhaile was hit and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Dave Gambino grounded out to score Hahn and Michael Venturella walked with the bases loaded to plate Trenhaile for the 2-0 lead.

T.J. Wood drew a leadoff walk in the second and came around to score on a single to center by Trenhaile.

Hahn hit his second double of the game to score Wood in a three-run fourth inning. Gambino also doubled and later scored on a throwing error to make it 6-0.

Gardner threw about 100 pitches in completing his 11th complete game of his career and first shutout. It was his sixth complete game of the season.

Micah Dohlen took the loss for the Miners to fall to 4-4.

Game 2 Recap: A big third inning by Missouri S&T lifted them to salvage the final game of the series 6-2. The Miners scored five runs in the frame with the big blow being a two-run homer by Nate Ulrich.

A leadoff walk started things for the Miners in the third and things spiraled from there. Tyler Schutt then stole second and came in on a groundout by Tyler Bodenstab.

S&T would get five hits in the inning with Ulrich's blast coming with two outs.

The Miners added a run in the eighth on a sac fly from Lucas Swindle.

Truman tried to mount a comeback in their half of the eighth. T.J. Wood opened things up with a triple and scored on Jarod Hahn's RBI single. The Bulldogs loaded the bases and Kyle Smith took a curve ball to the back to earn an RBI but Michael Venturella popped out with the sacks still loaded to end the threat.

Wood singled with one out in the ninth but was erased on a game-ending double-play.

Keith Coulson held Truman in-check as he pitched seven and a third, allowing eight hits and struck out six to pick up his third win of the season.

Alex Hoffmann took the loss also going seven innings, giving up five runs and allowing nine hits. He falls to 4-2 on the season.
